Arthur Smith

This episode sees a seasoned performer take centre stage in front of a very different audience to his usual crowd.

Comedian and playwright Arthur Smith, who has performed before a live audience on hundreds of occasions, faces up to the toughest challenge of his career: a sober crowd of GCSE students expecting a lesson in citizenship.

The self-proclaimed "Mayor of Balham" has chosen to teach citizenship because, he says: "I don't know anything about it."

As he begins the lesson using a bold, improvisational approach, the class's regular teacher, Mary Thurston, does her best to sound encouraging. At the end of the session, both the pupils and Arthur confess that they have learnt a lot from the experience.
